Genesis 1:1

Admissions FAQ's PDF Print E-mail
1. How do I apply to study at CCBC-Peru?

It’s easy! If you are a new student, just click here and fill out the application on-line.

If you are a transfer student from any other CCBC campus, send us your continuing student application by clicking here

2. Do you accept married students and families?

Yes we do! When possible, we try to accomodate married students and small families in our on-campus apartments. If no on-campus family housing is available, we help our married students find housing off site. We are happy to report that the Lord has always provided for married couples and families!

3. Why do I need an e-mail address to apply?

Because of the distance, we have found e-mail correspondence to be the quickest and most reliable way to file applications. Through e-mail, you will be notified of your acceptance, class offerings and book requirements; additionally, you will need e-mail to let us know your flight information. This is also the means by which friends and family back home can contact you once you are in Peru. For these reasons, it is important that each student have an e-mail address.

4. Once accepted, what must I do to prepare to go?

The first thing is to get a passport if you do not yet have one—which could take several weeks. Passport applications can be found at most post offices. If you already have a passport, make sure it is valid for another 6 months. Before you travel to Peru, please make three copies of your passport, and leave one with a responsible person back home.

5. When shall I buy my airline tickets?

It is important that you wait until you receive your letter of acceptance to CCBC-Peru before you purchase your tickets. Once you do, start shopping around for the best tickets. Airlines often have sales, and many students have found great prices by contacting STA Travel at he following website: www.statravel.com If you have no one to travel with, contact our admissions department and we will try to find a travel partner that may be leaving from your area.

6. How do I get my Peruvian visa?

All students arrive to Peru on “tourist” visas. The Peruvian government recognizes CCBC-Peru as a "religious" organization (rather than an "educational" institution), and will therefore not issue student visas to those studying at CCBC-Peru. If you are traveling with a U.S. Passport, your “tourist” visa is automatic and the tourist card will be given to you on the airplane to fill out. If you are traveling on a passport from any other country, please check current visa requirements at your nearest Peruvian embassy or consulate. Peruvian Immigration officials at the airport have the discretion to issue either 30, 60 or 90 day tourist visas. This is not a problem, however, as additional days can be acquired for the remainder of the four month semester, and the Bible College will cover this expense. It is vital that you remember to keep your visa (stamped white paper) tucked away in your passport; you will need it again in order to leave the country.

7. Why is a round-trip ticket necessary?

The Peruvian government is happy for your visit, but they also want to make sure you return home. For this reason, Peruvian law requires you to have round-trip tickets before boarding the plane unless you have legal residency in Peru.

8. As a student, when should I arrive?

We want to stress that you wait to purchase your airline ticket until you have received a formal letter of acceptance from us, which will contain the suggested arrival and departure dates. We suggest arriving one day prior to the Saturday morning student orientation. Room and board is included in the student tuition for those arriving 24 hours prior to orientation, and the Saturday following the last day of the semester.

9. What should I expect upon arrival at Jorge Chavez International Airport?

Immigration: Once you get off the plane, you will be directed to the immigration department to get you visa. Give the officer the visa application you filled in on the airplane, and he will stamp it. Do not forget to tuck this paper into your passport for safe keeping--you'll need it to get back out of the country.

Baggage Claim: From there, you will go to baggage claim and pick up you luggage. There are free carts to help you roll your luggage all the way out to the car. Never allow anyone to take your luggage and place it on another cart--they will charge you for their services, when the carts are totally free!

Customs: On the plane, you will also be given a customs declaration form that will have to be filled out. This you will hand to the custom's official in the line at the end of the carousels, who will ask you to push a button that will indicate if your luggage will have to be inspected. A red light means: inspection, and the green light means you are clear to go.

Find your CCBC-Peru Representative: We should be waiting for you just beyond the glass partition after you leave the customs and luggage areas. It is much easier for us to spot you if you do not go out into the crowd of people to look for us. Please do not leave the building. Because of the many airport pick-ups, occasionally we run a little late; please wait for us. Do not take a taxi, and please do not go with anyone else other than the CCBC-Peru representative that will have your name and flight information. Our representative will prove to you that he is truly from the college. If you have waited more than an hour, you may want to call us at either 460-9112 or 261-7492 to see why we are late. If you can wear a shirt, sweater or cap with the Calvary Chapel dove, this will help our representative to identify you.

10. How will I get from the airport to the campus?

We will come and get you at the airport! We just need you to e-mail our admissions department your arrival information:

Airline

Flight Number

Arrival Date

Arrival Time

Departure City

11. How about early arrivals and late departures?

If you plan to stay at our facilities prior to, or beyond, the regular semester dates reservations must be made in advance and payment must be made for lodging ($10 per person per day), and meals ($2 per person per meal). To check on room availability and reservations, you may contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

12. Can I come with my parents or with a friend?

Guests may stay on site temporarily with prior approval and depending on space availability. They will be expected to pay for their room ($10 per person per day), and meals ($2 per person per meal).

13. What about sightseeing during the semester?

Peru is a beautiful country with lots of places of interest to see and experience. We recommend sightseeing either prior to, or after, your time of study with us. It is difficult to interrupt the daily schedule and busy college activities, and grades will be affected for unexcused absences for classes missed for sightseeing.

14. How much luggage may I bring?

We advise you to check with the airline you are flying with; most airlines will allow passengers to take up to two 50 pound pieces of luggage, plus one piece carry-on luggage up to 20 pounds (in addition to a lap-top computer). We suggest packing all your personal belongings your carry-on and in one 50 pound bags. Save room in your second piece of luggage to bring supplies and material for the Bible College.

15. What is the weather like in Peru?

Remember, when it is summer in the States, it is winter here. And summer here is during the months of December - March. Fall in Peru is not too bad, but Spring tends to be cold and wet. The temperature in Lima is not too extreme, anywhere between 55 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

16. What should I pack?

For Linens, you will want to bring towels, sheets, pillow. and a warm blanket for a twin-sized bed. Bring an MP3 CD player for your “Through the Bible” class and your MP3 CDs. (To purchase the C-2000 series of “Through the Bible” on MP3 CD call the Chapel Store at 714-540-2941 or Word for Today at 800-272-9673.) Bring Christian music, and a bilingual Bible (Spanish/English Parallel, New King James/Reina Valera 1960 versions). We also suggest you bring a battery powered alarm clock. Regarding other personal items, be sure to include a good waterproof sunscreen and a small bottle of 100% Deet mosquito repellant. Regarding clothing, dress the same way you would at the Murrieta Campus. Along with your clothing, remember to include something appropriate for a possible wedding/funeral. There will be “dirty” assignments at times so include some grubby clothes as well. Bring modest swimming apparel.

17. What should I leave home?

Leave any secular music or videos at home, as this is a time to invest your relationship with Jesus.

18. What personal items can be found in Peru?

Lima has large supermarkets where you can find just about everything you will need here. There are a variety of shampoos, deodorants, tooth pastes, and hygiene products available in nearby stores (though sometimes inferior quality to favored brand-names found in the States).

19. Should I bring my laptop computer?

You are encouraged to bring a lap-top, and we do offer wireless Internet at the college. It is also a good idea to bring a USB device to store your homework and pictures on. Peruvian customs allow tourists to bring one lap-top and one camera into the country; you do so, however, at your own risk, as electronic equipment are targeted by thieves.

20. Are there differences in the electricity in Peru?

Peru’s electrical network is established on 220 voltage, rather than the 110 voltage used in the United States. Great care must be taken, therefore, as many electronic devices will get ruined if they get plugged in to 220 outlets. Most modern laptops and cameras allow both 110 and 220 electrical currency. The Bible College campus and the orphanage are equipped with both 110 and 220 voltage.

21. What about changing money?

In order to get the best exchange rate for your money, we suggest waiting to change your money into Peruvian “Soles” until you are given instructions upon arrival to the Bible College. Most businesses in Lima will take dollars as well as soles. Credit and debit cards are accepted in most grocery stores and restaurants. ATM machines are available to get cash, but U.S. banks may impose charges and international transaction fees. Check with your financial institution regarding these charges.

22. Can you tell me about shots and immunizations?

We suggest that each student be current on their tetanus shots. Unless you are going into remote jungle areas, there is no need for most immunizations. If immunizations are needed, they are much more affordable here in Peru. We would like to stress that students eat meals provided for them by the college and avoid eating in questionable establishments where diseases may be contracted.

23. Do I need medical insurance?

Yes! We require that every student have medical coverage in case of emergency. Many students find they are covered on their parent’s policies while studying abroad. Others may have to purchase special coverage. You may contact www.acsa.com if you are shopping for affordable overseas medical coverage.

24. Please explain your tuition policy.

Tuition: Covered in the total $2,600 per semester price includes dorm, meals and academic expenses. In addition, students will have to purchase books for required reading, and trust the Lord's provision for the mid-term mission's practicum.

Bed Deposit: A $600 non-refundable deposit will be requested to hold your bed and will be due 30 days prior to arrival.

Payment: You may send checks to:

Friends of Calvary Chapel Bible College Peru
1771 E. Palomar St.
Chula Vista, CA 91913.

Please have your name placed in the memo portion of the check. Note: Tuition payments are NOT tax deductible donations.

25. Is there a refund policy? Prior to arrival to Peru, you are eligible for a refund not to exceed $2,000. Your $600 deposit is non-refundable. On or after the first day of classes refunds are given according to the following schedule:

Weeks attended of semester Percentage of Fees Refunded
Up to 2 weeks…………………………………80%
Up to 3 weeks…………………………………70%
* No refunds will be given after the 3rd week of classes.

26. How can I receive money in Peru?

The easiest, and most inexpensive way to receive money in Peru is through a local ATM machine to access money deposited into your Stateside checking or savings account. Do note that some banks do charge a fee for international withdrawals. You may want to ask your bank about their policies before you leave home.

27 Is there a room deposit?

There is a refundable room-cleaning deposit of $35 which doubles as exit tax money you will need to leave the country. At the end of the semester, once your dorm room is thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and approved, this deposit will be refunded to you in order to pay Peruvian immigration their tax at the airport.

28. Is there Internet available?

Yes! The Bible College library has several public computers for all of our students with Internet access for Bible research and email communication only. We also have free wireless Internet for students who wish to use their own laptops and agree to our Internet access policy. The Internet is available from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. There are also local "cabinas" to rent inexpensive Internet access time.

29. Is there a phone?

Yes again! Your friends and family are welcome to call you at (011-51-1) 460-9112 anytime after the Bible College office closes after 5 p.m. Peru time (or anytime if it is an emergency). You may purchase inexpensive phone cards in Lima in order for you to make international calls.

30. Can I receive letters and packages from home?

Yes, it is always a delight for students to receive notes and small “care packages” from home! We would like to stress one thing however:

NO NOT PUT THE BIBLE COLLEGE NAME ON THE PACKAGE!

Any packages which include “Calvary Chapel Bible College Peru” will be subject to customs duty assessment by the Peruvian government, and a lengthy trip to downtown Lima to retrieve the package from customs. Small packages are best, and should be made out as follows to avoid any hassles: Student Name, Jr. Trujillo #456, Magdalena del Mar, Lima 17, Peru, South America. We discourage having larger care packages mailed to you. It is slow, expensive, and unpredictable. And again, don’t include the Bible College name anywhere on the package!

31. What courses are currently being offered?

Course offerings change each semester and classes are determined by the needs of our accepted students. CCBC-Peru offers a growing number of live classes, plus a few recorded video courses for those needing certain classes not currently offered. Once you are accepted and notified of our class offerings you will be requested to "pre-register" for your classes by e-mailing the admissions department and telling them what specific classes you plan to take.

32. What about my textbooks?

As soon as your classes have been determined, we will then advise you in due time on the books you will need to purchase and bring with you in your luggage.

33. I understand you are offering the new modular, or "block" classes. Can you explain this to me?

Sure! Most of our Bible classes are held in the mornings, Monday - Friday, from 9:30 - 12:30 for two-to-three consecutive weeks. We no longer offer weekly courses on certain days throughout the semester.

34. How will I do my laundry?

CCBC-Peru has a tub and a clothes-line for those who would want to wash their clothes by hand. We also have laundry facilities where you can wash and dry for $2 per load. There are also laundry services nearby where some students take their clothing to be washed and folded for a fee.

35. Are there safety precautions I should know about?

As any major city in the world, Lima has its share of crime. We advise our students on safety issues, and precautions are taken. Thankfully, we are in a safe neighborhood. Students are encouraged to walk in pairs outside of the confines of the campus.

36. What rules at CCBC-Peru should I be aware of?

At student orientation at the beginning of each semester a thorough list of rules and guidelines will be presented to all the students. We do have curfew: doors are locked weekdays at 10:30 p.m. and 11 on Friday and Saturday evenings. Lights are out one hour later. For a more comprehensive list of guidelines, click Here to see our policies.

37. What about dating and romance?

Because of the culture we reach out to, and the nature of our ministry, we maintain a very high standard concerning romantic relationships. We prefer that our students concentrate on studies and ministry and refrain from dating and courtship while at CCBC-Peru. We hold to a strict policy on relationships that all students will be expected to abide by. Please click Here to read our student handbook.
